Productivity is what fuels your personal or professional goals, and it’s easy to tie it into your self-worth if you’re not careful. It’s hard to be productive all the time, though. Today, we want to give you some actionable tips on how you can keep your productivity levels reasonably high.
To make the most of your working session, you should be prepared to eliminate interruptions.
The best way to do this is to plan ahead. Start by making a list of the priorities for your project, then work out how long they will all take and how you should segment out each of the tasks. This will give you a clear “to do” list and how long each of the tasks will take to fulfill, establishing a clear timeline to completion in the process.
If you follow this strategy, you’ll also know which tasks depend on others—including what your team is depending on you for.
You can only be productive for so long before it all grinds to a halt.
If you try to sustain productivity for too long, you’ll make yourself less productive. This happens because your brain gets tired, which will lead to more mistakes and more work that will have to get done a second time, which is wasteful and unnecessary. You should aim to work in sprints of 20-30 minutes with rests in between each task.
If the task takes longer than this timeframe, you can break it down into smaller, more manageable pieces.
Smartphones are incredible tools for productivity, but they can also become serious distractions.
With social media fueling much of our online interaction, it can get difficult to separate ourselves from the devices that keep us connected. But this connection can also be a distraction, and you should do what you can to mitigate it as much as possible. Social media is just one piece of the puzzle, though, and to master smartphone productivity, you have to control all notifications.
Consider turning off notifications in their entirety during your work periods to keep them from robbing you of your precious productive time.
